Video
- Paragraph 1: Describe how the video appeals to two of the multiple intelligences.
While making my video I chose elements while carefully considering how the different elements would impact the different bits of intelligence they might have. My video supports those visual-spatial learners as it shows visuals supporting the content being discussed. My video also included music that played in the background. This music would help support those students who are strong in the musical intelligence area. Both of these elements support different types of learners and better draw them into learning and understanding the information being presented to them.
2. Paragraph 2: Explain two ways your video aligns with suggestions from two of the articles you read this week. Provide APA style citations for the articles in the body of the paragraph and then correctly cite the articles at the bottom of the blog post using APA style.
While reading the article, "Effective Educational Videos" I saw some similarities between my video assignment and the characteristics the author was describing. For example one of the important aspects of an effective educational video was student engagement. The author discussed that length of the video is very important. "As videos lengthened, however, student engagement dropped off, such that the median engagement time with 9-12 minute videos was ~50% and the median engagement time with 12-40 minute videos was ~20%." (Brame 2015) My video was short in length under the 6-minute range. While reading the article from the IRROLD, I learned that "The cognitive theory of multimedia learning shows that it is necessary to select relevant information and organize it into a verbal and pictorial model (Mayer, 2001)." I feel my video supports this research as I included relevant information about the four states of matter. It was simply demonstrated and accompanied by images, furthering the understanding of the topic. I felt my video was well organized, visually appealing, and presented the information clearly.

Hi Olivia!
ReplyDeleteI loved your video and how it is geared towards your classroom! I think this would be a great introduction into flipped classroom style teaching! Like you mentioned, it is short enough to keep their attention but long enough to get the key ideas! Kids can be engaged in the video and still take away a lot of good information without you having to be lecturing them to death! I think this would increase engagement in your classroom!
