Multiple Intelligences Theory

Upon completion of my Multiple Intelligences test, I discovered that my two most prominent intelligences are; Self and Nature. These were results that I didn't quite expect, but after reading about I understand how they relate to me. For starters, the self-intelligence description discusses how a person with a strong sense of self prefers to learn from trial and error and likes time to self-reflect. I can relate to this description as I am someone who keeps to themselves and thrives in situations where I am working independently. My second highest intelligence, nature, was what surprised me the most. I would have never thought nature to be one of my intelligences, but something I often do school work or other reflective work sitting outside, I find I am more easily able to focus with fewer distractions when I am outside.

Thinking back to school, I can think of two different scenarios that both cultivated my multiple intelligences and did not. In grade school, I remember being a part of zoo programs at the local zoo. In these programs, you learned about animals and the world around you. I was able to learn while being outside and around different animals which helped shape the person and educator I am today. On the contrary, I can remember many instances throughout my schooling where I was forced to work in a partner situation with someone who was slowing me down and making things tougher on me. This is a situation where I felt my intelligence was not considered which ultimately led to a bad experience in those particular classes.

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences and web design are both related in the fact that the web provides many different ways to present information, helping with that intelligence unique to each person. I personally tend to spend more time on websites that interest me. For example, I like websites or social media with pictures, videos, or tips about ways to improve myself or aspects of my life.  These web avenues appeal to my different bits of intelligence by putting the focus on myself and my interests.

  1. I think having self as one of your highest rated intelligences would be very helpful. It was my third highest rated intelligence, but I think being able to understand oneself through self reflection makes coming up with decisions and choosing a path in life easier. The ability to be with oneself alone and not feel lonely while also being able to enjoy the independence it gives you is something that many people yearn to have within their own lives. As far as school experiences go I think the zoo program would be perfect for any learner as their are so many wonderful unique creatures around the world that everyone would be able to find something to relate to and would pique curiosity within a student. Finally, I agree that web design performs its function of spreading information to multiple others is very similar to that of the Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
